Oh god - those are heinous statistics...

Anyways, I had a great time at the back net - time to see the ball, time to move around to the ball - just a lot of time.

Got me a decent run out, and a a or so near miss - although I think that style points should be awarded - near miss run-out, thrown from acute angle -1 - you know, kind of like Chan Maths ;)

Good game all round guys - ignorance of my statistics would be appreciated however!!!!

I won the toss (at last) and elected to field first.  Going into the game, I was aiming to keep them under 100 runs.

Bowling:

Their first partnership scored 33, with not many chances offered in terms of catches.  However, we took a couple of run-out chances.

We knew we needed to keep their next partnership low, both in the context of the game and because the incredible bulk was batting.  We took four wickets to keep them to 11.  Just a note for when we play these guys again - when the big dude is on strike, the field should come right up (and the backnet should wait close to the stumps).  He has no backlift or strokeplay - he only found the sidenet once, and never got it out of the frontcourt.

Their third partnership topscored with a wicketless 36 with two backnets.  They had some streaky shots, and Simon in particular was unlucky not to pick up a wicket.

Wanting to hold their last partnership to under 100 was a tricky task, and 27 was a respectable result as the batsmen were both competent.

So, 107 the target - definitely get-able.  We bowled 14 runs in extras which is good, though they bowled only 6.

Batting:

Chan and Paul started us off with a 3 wicket 21.  It was unusual because there were no run-outs and Gatch couldn't find the backnet (though he found the backnet fielder).  Still, we got to see a classic Chan bowled which satisfied us that they hadn't been replaced by androids.

Si and Bart had us worried with -2 off their first three overs, but they spanked Bruce about for 17 in the last over to post 15 for the partnership (with 4 wickets lost).  Shoutout to Bart for being mankad'd - first I've seen for the pornstars.

Greg and Ben went in with the score on 36, and batted superbly.  There were just two dot balls the entire innings, and just one wicket.  Ben played a Steve-esque innings of working it around into the sidenets for a well crafted 18 off 12.  Greg also worked it around well, and found the backnet twice.  47 from the partnership to turn the game on it's ear.

Katene and I went in with targets of 26 and 28 for the win and the quad respectively.  We knew we didn't need anything fancy and could work it around to take out the win after Greg and Ben had done the business.  However, a couple of their bowlers thought it'd be good to bowl it in the slot, so I obliged.  In the end, we top-scored with 49 and just one wicket where I was run-out.  We got what I'm pretty sure was our first ever overthrow as a partnership too.

Generally:

A pretty good all-round performance.  We fielded well and bowled well enough to keep them to 107.  The batting was dominated by the last two partnerships, but the first two weren't outside the realms of decency either.

Good fun to knock off the number one placed team.

Can I just say that a late cut into that Ginga's head in the future is on the cards?

Yes he was the proprietor of the mankad, but he failed to get any more wickets than that.

Goes to show, cheaters never prosper; well, ginga cheats never prosper...
