First, a shoutout to Damo who (as Bart pointed out) brought up 1000 runs for the team a few games ago. He now has 1040 runs.
Greg is closing in on 750 (now 669)
Steve broke the 500 late last season (now 503)
Chan just broke 300 (now 303), with Gatch close behind on 292.
Bowling:
This week, I'll start with the bowling (as we bowled first).
Well, we were able to put them on the backfoot from the word go with an over of minus 17. Of the four wickets in that over, at least three were runouts (both Greg and Si hitting the stumps from near point-blank once each) - so credit to some great fielding there.
On the whole, we bowled just ok, but fielded expertly. The deliveries were at times wayward (we put down 32 runs in extras) and undemanding, but we backed it up with a top performance in the field, capitalising on just about everything. I can recall just the one dropped catch (which I put down on the backnet).
Shoutout to Gary for his extraless -10 off two overs.
Batting:
Chan and Gatch got us off to a great start, with a composed 31 between them. Chan didn't get out once, which has got to be an omen the Apocalypse is nigh. Paul's batting has been absolutely top-notch so far this season (touch wood), averaging 10.6. Given our first partnership so often sets the tone/pace, it was great that Chan and Gatch starved them of wickets.
Gary and Simon continued the trend, with a score of 35. Simon played a textbook wicketless 11 from 11, with lots of nudges into the sidenets. Gary got some deliveries that suit his softball background, and summarily dismissed them to the backnet in his innings of 16 from 13.
Myself and Barnaby (it was Barnaby wasn't it? Damo has him as Benny in the stats) topscored with 46 including just two wickets. Good batting from both partners with the strike rotating often.
NOTE TO SELF: Never bat with Greg again, as I must use his bat. Apologies to the Slazenger (Rob's bat) but I'm a fickle beast.
Greg scored a highly respectable 16 off 12 with one out. In the second sign of impending Apocalypse, Damo bottom-scored for the team with two. Once the four horsemen ride, ye shall be judged.
Shoutout to Chan for his 14 off 14, for whilst it included some streaky shots, it was wicketless and a much needed return to form.
Personally:
Well, the -17 over was nice, but much like the -24, it must be credited to sharp fielding and slow running ;) Still, a controlled session with the ball landing where it was supposed to, and just one extra.
The batting was sweet, they had just the sort of bowlers I like, and no-one particularly sharp on backnet to discourage me from driving. Love that bat, the oval handle feels more natural, and the lightness allows for great bat-speed.
Another improvement of the captaincy ratio - two out of three this season. Will be interesting to see if we can carry this form through to beat last season's nemisis Public Trust next week.

And on a personal note for myself - I hate batting when there is no pressure.
Greg and I came in to bat needed a major collapse (we were about 30 runs ahead of their score already) to lose the match. I certainly gave it a good nudge ;-)
Maybe the lovely captain in the future might like to chuck Greg and myself in to open the innings if it looks like it's going to be an easy one.
Also - I must agree with Callum - that bat of Greg's is lovely - even though I have just purchased his old bat...I'd rather not bat with Greg so that I can use his new one!!
PS - "Banarby" is actually Brendon - (Benny being his nickname) - God knows what those umpires hear us say sometimes - he is down as Brendon and Banarby on the scoresheet - having said that Gary is down as Gary and Gray!

OK - as someone who was observing from the sidelines... stupid injury...
Greg's bat - Let it be known as the Axe from hence forth as it seemed to cut their bowling attack in half... was thinking of other puns but went off on some wayward S&M bend so let's not go there...
Callum's predictions of the Apocalypse maybe realised sooner than he thinks... bit of luck I will be back on deck this Thursday... so thanks for letting me have one or two throws on Thursday - shoulder came through lovingly, so not too stressed... bowling will be interesting but we'll see...
Suppose I better say something about the game - Brendon/Barnaby/Benny and Callum's partnership was a highlight - talk about spanking people left, right, centre and over their heads...
Greg's batting - well that bat offers you a great straight drive... recall you calling NO! to Damo, the fielder sautering around to get the ball off the net and by the time he got it you had actually taken the run. WORD TO ALL - KEEP EYES ON THE BALL...
I didn't see much of Gatch's and Chan's batting because of having a durry - but according to the stats and what Callum said, it sounded all good. Also as Callum said - the first partnership sets the tone - either fielding or batting - and I think their first partnership suffered from Callum's first over. People will become more cautious in their approach if something like that occurs.
